Recent Activities and Thank Yous
Back-To-School Supply Sale
The Grandview school supply sale for year 2010-2011 was another successful event due to the tremendous help we received from our community. We could not make this happen without the parents and students that volunteered to make kits, work the sale, clean up afterwards and deliver kits. Thank you to Lin Benson (and all her student volunteers), Angel, Skillman, Stacey Sternacker, Stacie Gecse, Debbie Wilson, Krissy Dobbies, Amy Buscemi, Jill Mastroianni, Julie Bullock, Janet Gross, Gladys Kessler, Jennifer Dunkle, Dawn Huelskamp, Susan Hyde, Kristi Jump, Kristen Shirey, Kim Roessler, Julie Horning and Heidi Bechtel. A big thank you also goes out to Judy Hauenstein and Lue Bauer for answering all our questions. A special thank you goes out to Star Beacon (for making ordering and delivery so easy), Kroger (for the donation of bags) and especially, Mark McKnight (who made setting up and tearing down effortless for us).
Back-To-School Ice Cream Social
Many thanks to Jeni’s Ice Cream, for so generously sponsoring the Ice Cream Social once again! Chairs Joanne Taylor and Amy Day wish to thank Chris Mattingly, Stacey Sterneker, and Polly Sipes for helping at the social.
Back-To-School Welcome Coffee
Thanks to Patti Wilson and Sharon Hatem for coordinating the well-attended Welcome Coffee. A special recognition goes to Patti Wilson for scouring Grandview in search of a coffee deal. The chairs would like to also thank Tom Hatem Automotive for donating bottled water to the event.
Staff Appreciation
The Staff Appreciation Committee hosted an apple-themed welcome for staff this year. Chair Analisa Trares would like to thank Rife’s Market for apples and Sunday Speaks for apple cookies. A big thank you also goes to DK diner for helping the committee in September.

Ox Roast Duck Pond

Innisbrook Gift Wrap
Kick-off for gift wrap was September 10th. Chairs Anastasia Yue and Sharon Hatem report the order deadline is September 28th.
Upcoming Activities
Walk to School/Safe Routes Day
October 6, 2010 has been designated as Walk to School/Safe Routes day. All children and their parents are encouraged to walk all or part of the way to school.

COSI on Wheels
COSI on Wheels is coming to Stevenson on October 6! We are in need of volunteers for set up the evening of October 6 at 8pm, and for the event itself on October 7. Please contact Cathy Murphy at ctmurphy@wideopenwest.com if you would like to volunteer.
Pumpkin Carving Family Fun Night
Join us in the Stevenson Cafeteria on Thursday, October 14th from 6:30-8pm for Pumpkin Carving. This is a “drop-in” event (come any time) but not a “drop-off” event (children must be supervised at all times and must stay in the cafeteria). Gift Wrap Pizza Parties
On October 22nd at the end of the school day, Chairs Anastasia Yue and Sharon Hatem will be providing a party blitz to both Stevenson and Edison for gift wrap participation. They are in need of volunteers to help make this a success.
Edison PTO Crew Night
The Edison PTO is hosting a Family Fun Night at Crew Stadium on Sunday, October 24th at 4pm. Stevenson families are invited to this event. Tickets cost $15 and the order deadline is Friday, October 8th. For more information please visit www.Grandviewpto.net
Trick-or-Treat for Unicef
The Grandview K-6 PTO is proud to partner with UNICEF for “Trick or Treat with UNICEF!”
We will distribute foldable UNICEF boxes and more information the week of Trick-or-Treat! “Trick or Treat with UNICEF” is fun and easy, and helps provide children around the world with food, clean water, medicine and school supplies.
Did you know that:
• 6 cents can provide water for 1 thirsty kid
• 30 cents can buy a workbook for a child to use in his/her classroom
• 50 cents can immunize a child against polio for life
• $3 can buy a large wool blanket to protect a child from the cold during an emergency
• $10 can provide 400 children with enough clean drinking water for one day
Think of the change that your spare change can bring! You can help! Watch for more information as it becomes available.
Election Day Bake Sale
The PTO will hold a bake sale at Stevenson on Election Day (November 2). Contact chair Kathy Andres at kandres@wowway.com if you are able to help, and don’t forget to stop by for a yummy treat!
Gift Wrap Order Distribution
Items ordered during the Innisbrook fundraiser will be distributed on November 3rd. Our thanks to co-chairs Sharon Hatem, and Anastasia Yue for their hard work on this activity! They are still looking for volunteers to help with the distribution.
Grandview Holiday Bazaar
Join us for one sweet shopping experience on Saturday, November 20th, 2010, at the EIMS Commons, 1240 Oakland Avenue in Grandview. The event will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Grandview Holiday Bazaar is a pre-holiday shopping experience offering high quality products from independent artisans and local businesses. All proceeds will benefit the Stevenson K-3 PTO.
